Are wolves cunning?

Wolf does not perform in circus

We see lions and tigers in circus, have we ever seen a wolf? They don't submit to authority, do they?
Literature and popular fiction characterises villains as wolves.
But then there are lone wolves too. Clint Eastwood's characters are known as lone wolves.
Interpreting wolf depends on how one interprets Sakuni, the infamous Mahabharata character. Being cunning, depends on circumstances and one's goals. RAW, KGB, CIA all these have cunningness in their DNA. Are they good?
The words - clever, intelligent, brilliant, cunning are the same. Both are two sides of the same coin. Its all in the eyes of the beholder. Amirtham and Alakaala visham came out from the same paarkadal.
India considers the 1971 victory as clever and valorous while Pakistan considers the same as a cunning victory.

Why wolves are not in circus?
Wolves are difficult to train and more difficult to sustain the training. They are intelligent than dogs, sensitive to the surrounding stimuli  and respond to it ignoring all the training and instructions. This article is a very good read http://wolfpark.org/animals/hybrids/sloan-poster/poster07/
So, wolves are not cunning, they are actually intelligent. Its our fear that makes us assume that they are cunning. They don't submit to the whims and fancies of the authority.
